Handling the Mercedes-Benz SSKL at 1:8 scale

Take a deep dive into this extraordinary 1:8 scale model

Join us as we take a dive into the extreme detail of the Mercedes-Benz SSKL at 1:8 scale. Built using data from a precise digital scan of an original car along with archive photographs, this edition perfectly replicates the car as it was raced to victory by Rudolf Caracciola in the Mille Miglia on the 12th and 13th of April 1931. The model features an opening engine cover that lifts up to reveal a stunning scale recreation of the supercharged 7,065cc six-cylinder engine. The models have been artistically hand painted to show the weathering details present at the end of the thousand miles racing through the very muddy roads of Italy. Limited to just 99 pieces, models of the 1931 Mille Miglia winning car are now available to order on our website.

The Mille Miglia, or thousand-mile race through Italy, was a notoriously difficult and prestigious road race, won to that point only by Italians piloting Italian machinery. Rudolf Caracciola broke that mould with his 1931 Mercedes-Benz SSKL privateer entry, despite Mercedes-Benz being unable to offer factory resources and backing at that time. Ably assisted by his co-driver, Wilhelm Sebastian, Caracciola won the 1000 mile extravaganza, achieving an average speed of 101.1 kph in the race from Brecia to Rome and back.
