Considered by many to be the most memorable 12 Hours of Sebring ever held, this 12th edition of 1970 proved to be drama-filled to the last. Mario Andretti, part of the number 19 Ferrari squad which eventually retired, was parachuted into the number 21 Ferrari in the final hour of the race, replacing fellow squad driver Ignazio Giunti. In a race that included famous movie star Steve McQueen in the Gulf-liveried Porsche 908, Andretti made a sterling effort in the final thirty minutes of racing action to snatch victory out of McQueen’s hands.
