  • To commemorate the 15th Anniversary of Audi’s fifth 24 Hours of Le Mans win, we have created a special race weathered Limited Edition of the car that was victorious on the 19th June 2005. This unique edition of fifteen 1:8 scale models has been meticulously hand-painted and detailed by our artisans in Bristol to show every detail of the race dirt that adorned the car after its 24 hours of tough competition. The artistry applied to these fifteen models continues to underline our commitment to creating beautiful hand-made pieces which fully capture both the spirit and precise appearance of iconic race cars.

This is the largest special edition by Amalgam at 1:8 scale to date, built especially to celebrate Audi’s 2005 victory. The base model was developed using data supplied by Audi AG, who also scrutinised the resulting prototype to ensure complete accuracy of the model. The weathering details are precisely applied by our artisans after thorough examination of archival imagery and footage to ensure the completed model is a perfect replica of the real car. Each model is accompanied by an archive quality Giclée print of the car post-race, selected by the curator at Motorsport Images.

One of the most successful Le Mans racers of all time, the Audi R8 Le Mans Prototype took victory in five of the six years it competed between 2000 and 2005, only losing out to the Bentley Speed 8 in 2003. Developed by Audi’s motorsport division, it was introduced as a redevelopment of Audi R8R and later birthed the Audi R8 sports car, which was released in 2007.

This model is a replica of the 2005 ADT Champion Racing No. 3 car which took Audi’s fifth Le Mans crown and sealed Tom Kristensen’s place in Le Mans history as he became the most successful Le Mans driver of all time. Piloted by Kristensen, JJ Lehto and Marco Werner, the No.3 qualified eighth, 4.2 seconds behind the leading Pescarolo. A flawless race, however, saw them slowly creep up the places and, by the third hour, they had overtaken their No. 2 sister car, driven by Frank Biela, Allan McNish and Emmanuele Pirro, after Pirro locked his cold tyres heavily on the run to Arnage corner and made contact with a tyre barrier.

Facing little challenge after that, Kristensen took the chequered flag in a time of 24:01:30.901, averaging a speed of 210.216 km/h (130.622 mph). The R8 finished two laps ahead of second placed No. 16 Pescarolo of Boullion. Their No. 2 sister car was a further four laps behind to complete the podium in third place, whilst another Audi R8, the No. 4 Team Oreca, finished in fourth, another two laps adrift.

It was Werner's first Le Mans victory, Lehto's second and Kristensen's seventh. Kristensen surpassed Jacky Ickx's all-time record of six overall Le Mans wins and Werner completed the Triple Crown of Endurance Racing (overall wins in the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans).

This fine scale model of the Audi R8 2005 Le Mans has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops with the co-operation and assistance of the manufacturer regarding original finishes, materials, archive imagery and drawings. The use of original CAD and supremely accurate digital scanning of the original car has allowed us to perfectly recreate every detail at scale. Furthermore, the prototype model has undergone detailed scrutiny by the manufacturer’s engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.

The Race Weathered Audi R8 2005 Le Mans Winner is limited to only 15 pieces.

    Handling Race Weathered Models

Please note that Amalgam’s weathered models are incredibly fragile and require careful handling. We recommend you keep handling to a minimum to avoid removing the weathered effects from the model. When handling the model, please adhere to the instructions included with the product when purchased. The brush featured in the gallery is included purely for demonstrating the scale of the model. We do not advise any cleaning of our weathered models as this may remove some of the weathering applications.

    IMPORTANT NOTE:
    • A PAYMENT AUTHORISATION FOR THE OUTSTANDING AMOUNT OF YOUR PURCHASE WILL BE HELD DURING THE FULL PLAN PERIOD as security. This hold will be charged ONLY in the event a monthly payment is declined (the authorisation hold might appear as "Pending" on your credit card bill).
    • You must maintain a sufficient "Required Available Credit" amount on your credit card for both the full outstanding amount of your purchase and the monthly payment during the full period of the plan.
    • Your credit card issuer may charge you interest on amounts charged to your credit card unless you pay Your credit card balance in full each month.
    • In case we do not manage to reauthorize the remaining amount of the transaction, you will receive a notice email. In that case, you will have to promptly update your credit card details. In case your bank still refuses to reauthorize the outstanding amount, we will have to charge the full outstanding amount of the transaction at once from your credit card.
Splitit offers you a flexible way of paying for items in instalments, completely interest-free, by reserving the available line of credit on your credit card. Then, each month, according to your payment plan, Splitit collects the instalment amount and reissues the authorisation request for the remaining balance.

It is important to note that payments are still charged on your existing credit card. Splitit simply provides you the method to do this and information about the instalments. Here is an example of how the service works for a customer buying a £2,000 model in 4 instalments of £500 each:

Splitit obtains authorisation from the credit card company for the full purchase amount of £2,000. This is not a charge on the card; it is simply reserving £2,000 from the customer’s line of credit.
    - The credit card company then charges the customer £500 for the first payment.
    - During the second month, Splitit requests authorisation for the outstanding purchase amount of £1,500, and charges the customer the second installment of £500.
    - This authorisation and charge process continues until the full £2,000 is collected - in this case, for 4 months.
No, this is an interest-free payment method with no additional fixed fees, service fees, interest or hidden fees of any kind.
No, your item will be processed after the first initial instalment and delivered as normal upon passing our Quality Control check at Head Office.
    - You can pay using Splitit with a valid Mastercard or Visa
Nothing, no credit check is required if you use a Splitit instalment plan and there is no impact on your credit score. All the bank sees is the individual instalment charges each month. If one of your payment authorisations is declined, there is still no affect on your credit rating; it is simply a declined charge. The denial would simply accelerate payment of the remaining balance (unless you provide a different card which was not denied).
You can pay using Splitit with a Mastercard or Visa. Debit cards, American Express and pre-paid cards are not accepted.
The instalments appear on your statement as individual charge items with the name of 'Amalgam Collection'. These payments will appear monthly according to your instalment plan, with the same charge amount each time.
