So called to celebrate the Scuderia’s fiftieth birthday, Luca Montezemolo stated that only 349 examples would be produced, one less than they thought they could sell. This alludes to the desirability of this limited-edition super car, which was the next in the series post-F40, this time powered by a 4.7 litre V12 engine that was based on the 3.5 litre V12 unit used in the 1990 Formula One contender piloted by Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell. As such, the F50 was the closest machine to a road-going Formula One car that Ferrari had built to date.* A purist, track-inspired approach fused supreme engine performance with a car bereft of power steering, power assisted braking and ABS brakes. However, the chassis construction made full use of complex composite materials and Formula One inspired construction methods, not to mention aerodynamics. The F50 features a removable hard top so that its passengers are able to experience some of the thrill of the Formula One driving experience.
This fine 1:18 scale model of the Ferrari F50 has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops with the co-operation and assistance of Ferrari regarding original finishes, materials, archive imagery and drawings.
